In celebration of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.’s life, vision, and commitment to the causes of both civil rights and public service, the Paterson Youth Council (PYC) hosted its 4th Annual Dr. MLK Youth Recognition Awards Brunch at the Brownstone House on Monday, January 18, 2010.
Since NJCDC’s inception in 1994, we have sponsored a Christmas Eve holiday party for hundreds of disadvantaged Paterson children each year. This year’s event, held at St. Gerard’s Community Center, was our largest event to date.
As of December 1st, four chronically homeless individuals with disabilities from Passaic County have an apartment of their own and are no longer homeless. These individuals are the first of many who will be permanently housed through NJCDC’s newest housing program called Housing First. NJCDC was selected by the

Evans, Superintendent of Paterson Public Schools, appeared at New Jersey Community Development Corporation’s headquarters on the evening of December 1st, to administer an oath of service to 33 Members of NJCDC’s Paterson Community Schools Corps (PCSC), the organization’s 16th AmeriCorps class.
The Attorney General announced that the state would be providing $3 million in new grant money to support and expand YouthBuild programs statewide. Included in this allocation is over $600,000 for NJCDC to expand the current Great Falls YouthBuild program.

On May 4, 2009, New Jersey Community Development Corporation (NJCDC) President and Founder Bob Guarasci was appointed by Governor Jon Corzine to serve on the Board of Trustees of William Paterson University. Prior to the appointment, Mr. Guarasci’s nomination was formally confirmed by the New Jersey State Senate.
On Tuesday, June 4, volunteers from KPMG’s offices in Montvale, New Jersey visited the Paterson Family Center as part of a company-wide volunteering day. These KPMG employees were spread out in each of the seven classrooms, reading to the students, playing with them during activity time, and assisting them on art projects.

On May 14th and 15th, two NJCDC teams competed in the North Jersey Robotics Competition at Passaic County Community College. The competition pitted 10 teams from Northern New Jersey against each other in three challenges: the sharpshooter, the trash collector and the obstacle course.

On February 25th, the New Jersey Historic Trust announced its recommended list for 2008 Historic Preservation Grants. NJCDC’s project to fully restore/rehabilitate the Rogers Locomotive Works Storage Building was included on this list.
